Years ago I was looking through some Republic of Texas papers in the Texas State Archives. As I held one of these documents up to the overhead light, I noticed that it had a US Army watermark. How had official US Army paper been transported to a foreign country in such quantity that it was used in everyday correspondence?  This article was published in a University of Texas publication entitled The Direction Line, which was circulated at libraries world wide.

The University of Harry Ransom Center helped me capture the watermarks for my article using the same techniques that they had used to verify their Gutenberg Bible.
