Ken McElroy, Jr., was born in 1945 and is a fifth generation Texan. Ken was raised in Corpus Christi and Austin. After graduating high school in Austin, he attended Texas A&M University where he was a member of the Corp of Cadets. He graduated with a degree in History and received a Lieutenant’s commission in the Army.  Ken served 19 months in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot and then returned to Austin. He attended the University of Texas and obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Ken has always had a dual interest in  Military History and Engineering.  As an Engineer, he worked on helicopter transmissions, oil well equipment, outboard motors (design, manufacturing, and quality ), auto transmissions,  computer chip manufacturing, and finally in the biomedical field.  He holds eight patents for his work in these various fields. Ken has occasionally taught classes in statistical process control and design of experiments.

As an amateur Military Historian, Ken has read and studied widely about the history of the Republic of Texas, the Civil War, World War I, World War II and Vietnam.  He has published articles on topics in all of these areas. In addition, Ken has done Military reenacting and does demonstrations in historical blacksmithing.

This website has been created so that Ken has a place to post and publish topics of interest in all of these areas and to share whatever pops up in “The Mind of McElroy.”
