First military medical evacuation

Where and when was the first military medical evacuation using a helicopter? The first military medical evacuation occurred in 1944 Burma using a YR-4B Sikorsky helicopter.  This under powered helicopter was being tested in Burma at the time. Because of the heat and altitude, the YR-4B could only carry the pilot and one passenger and its range was only 50 miles. American Lt Carter Harman, better known for his music compositions, flew that first mission. He successfully rescued a British Chindit soldier whose medical evacuation airplane had crashed in the Burma jungle. He has then able to rescue the remaining Chindits being evacuated along with the pilot of the downed fixed wing.

First recorded military medical evacuation

In January 1944 a second YR-4B was sent to Burma for medical rescue. In this rescue from a mountainous terrain, a passenger with a movie camera accompanied the helicopter. Once on the mountain, the YR-4B could only take off with the pilot and the injured service man. The camera man remained on the mountain but recorded the helicopter’s take off. I have not been able to discover the name of this second pilot or his camera man.
